Goodness, I knew you were a fine writer and one of my favorites, but this is simly GREAT! ;)

Author's Response:

Thanks again! 'The Taming of the Badger' has turned out to be my own second favorite, after "Enchain" (are we even allowed to have favorites from our own work? I hope so, because I do!)

You are one of my favorites, too, so that works out well!

Wonderful. I think you exelled at the challeng. You didn't give us one original character, but a whole bunch. I can't even decide who I like best. Okay, the obvious choice would be Kenuric, because he's such an odd character. But I like Ros and Trallen just as much - just can't help it!

And apart from the original characters you managed to put quite a few storylines into that fic. A coming of age story for Aragorn, a making peace with the past story for Kenuric, the proverbial orc story because you just have to have one in a LOTR fic (*g*). Amazing, they just intertwined and add to each other, instead of fighting for the reader's attention.

I do hope you come back to these characters in case you need some rangers in future stories. I'd love to see them again.

Author's Response:

Thanks so much, Michelle.

I liked Ross and Trallen a lot, too, but it's always the curmudgeons that get me all soft and mushy. I can't help but figure they are soft somwhere deep inside, if you can just get to it!

This story came about when I wondered what it would mean to *Aragorn* if his *father* had a brother-friend who was devastated at Arathorn's loss, as we so often speculate either Legolas or Aragorn would be, if one of them died. One who didn't see Aragorn until he was grown and looking a lot like Arathorn. And there ya go - a story. Funny how that works, huh?

You will definitely see Kenuric again in the long fic I will finish in the next week or two.

I always look forward to your reviews!

I'm swooning over this story! I love it to death... the description, the majesty, the perfection of wording (except for language), and the beauty of sorrow in Kenuric! He is so pitiable! It tore me apart, knotting my stomach and squeezing my heart. "He loves you." It was like a bell ringing inside my head! It cut through my own pain, of a kind of wound not unlike Kenuric's, and it chilled me. His reaction, his past. And the way Aragorn handled it... a marvel of writing history! I was touched by Elladan and Elrohir, how loving they were: "Estel, get in here and lie down! We cannot rest with an oliphant marching back and forth out there!" Seriously, this was dramatic- a sharp uphill climb that nearly stranded me on the top of a mountain, and yet in two simple, elegant paragraphs, you rounded it off and brought me (sadly) back to earth. A shaking and fantastic read, that will stand out amidst hundreds of Arathorn-related tales! I love the last sentence- it did not curb my desire for more, but it was the most fabulous ending I can recall to my mind! There is so much more that I love, for how breathtaking it is, and prodigious the care and interwoven themes, how consistent you are, and so much more, but I think I've already worn you out with my rambling! Still, I must say how shocked I was that you did not recieve first place! "I am Hunter" was good, deserving of a 9, but yours far passed it!

Author's Response:

Thanks so much, Elemmire! This is one that I actually felt turned out ok; that I was pleased with. I quite fell in love with Kenuric (probably not a good thing for an author to do) and was sorry to see him go. Perhaps he will show up again sometime.  I'm always glad when people enjoy the way I write the twins.

Are you the Elemmire that wrote for the Tietho and took third place? If you are, I left a review on the Teitho site for you.

Oh, I like Aragorn! Your story was well crafted indeed, just the right combination of suspence, humor and depth. I especial like when Aragorn spoke of his father to Trallen, it showed the depth of his conection to Elrond without being sappy and his respect fot his father, without being trite.

This sort of story lends more interest to the characters Tolkien created.

Author's Response:

Thanks again! I'm glad you liked the bit with Aragorn telling Trallen about his fathers. I was afraid some people would think he was too cold about Arathorn, but he never knew the man, how can he love him in more than an abstract sense?

As always, your comments are *so* appreciated!

YES!!! YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I voted for you, I did! You were my first pick! I printed it out and tucked it away in a safe corner in my room. I knew it was you!
The beginning was elegant, a smooth and delicatly picked start to such a tale as this. The description of the three brothers was tastful and piquant. "That is because I am not fool enough to answer him!" A delightful humour arouses, already! And Kenuric is a captivating case, and a charming prospect of your fabulous weaving! Shakespeare's line is cleverly redone for this! (Though I must say it confused me... I can't make sense of it to a full!) "At least I know who to make jester, when I become king." Love it, love it! The descirption of Kenuric is thrilling! Perfection to the letter! I loved this... save the language (for religous reasons)
O! nearly you made me choke! "for surely such a hard man would never weep." I loved this! A transcendent and consummate work of literary art!
