... uhm... nervous cough... what should I say here... that I like to read and sometimes write stories about the ranger and the elf?

Otherwise: I am female, and over 40. And I love horses.

Oh well, and now I am 'outing' myself, as I promised I'd do if Michelle would allow German stories :-): On (de: I post as jandrina for 'historical' reasons, and a few of my german stories do exist as audiofics on jinjurly's site (also under the name jandrina:

(actually, the audiofic-thingy is the reason why I switched to writing in german, I love the concept of audiofics, but my spoken english is beyond horrible... so if anyone wants to make an audiofic of another one of my stories: great - go ahead!)

Great!!! - Doing a happy dance for finding a LOTR-Podfic here - and then such a lovely one at that. Listened to most of it yesterday and will finish it later, and I have to say you did a great job. I love the story, and I love that I can listen to it.

I think you captured Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas quite well. Often I really could see the scenes you described as if they were playing out in front of my eyes.

Hope you'll write - and read - more stories!

The Stars of Harad by Cassia [2 Reviews]
When Aragorn falls in love with Arwen, it seems that he has done the one thing that could ever divide he and his elven family. Certain that his home is his no longer, Aragorn leaves with the rangers, attempting to forget the heartache of all he has lost... What he did not count on was losing his memory and forgetting *everything*. Now, to find him, Legolas must join the very men who have captured and enslaved his friend, he must be one of them... and he must pay the dreadful penalty when their confidence is broken. But if Aragorn cannot remember, cannot trust the elf he no longer knows... will it all have been in vain?

Just discovered that a few of the Mellon Chronicle stories are posted here, and since this story is one of my... uhm... several ;-)... favorites out of the series I'll just write a review here. I especially love 'lost memory'-stories and the angsty possiblities they provide - and you did a wonderfull job with that, of course.

Oh my..., this one had me in tears, when Legolas decided to leave alone, when his siblings could not see what he needed, and he didn't want to destroy their happiness...

It is a great story. I was looking for a bit of insipiration into how Legolas' past might have looked like, and I got so much more than I ever bargained for.

Also I got a view into how it might be to have siblings... I had no idea what I am missing ;-). Especially Lainfea caught my heart. The changes from almost-warrior-like she had to be to survive to the small elfling she truly is..., it was done great...

... and also so many references to 'The hobbit', which luckily I got to some parts because I am currently reading it :-)... I love your interpretation how the enchanted river came to be enchanted in the first place.

(And I was very amused by the pairing of Borka and Lovis... hehe... I wonder what Mattis and Undis would have to say to that... ;-) )

I've enjoyed this story very much, in all its angstiness-glory - especially all the parts with Vlohiri and Aragorn..., I liked them so much in fact, that in the end I just HAD to jump forward to their pieces each time the focus went away from them ;-). But I will come back and read it all... :-).

Grin... Vlohiri and Floh... liked that!

That's a great story about Aragorns time in Gondor, and gives in my opinion a good account of how it could have been between Denethor and Thorongil. It is sad indeed that they could not be friends.

Your Gandalf is a enjoyably witty as always :-)

Call of the Heart by Silivren Tinu [8 Reviews]
A/N: “Call of the Heart” was written for the June/July “What if” - Teitho contest. The task was to take a scene from the movies and re-write it the way it could/should/might have happened. That was a nice 'what if'. I liked it a lot already when I read it the first time, and now again :-).

It's almost funny in its tragic to 'hear' Aragorn reason out why he can't find Legolas at first. But of course he then insists to follow him, instead of going to Helm's Deep with Theoden, once he realizes what happened. Poor Gimli, though, having to stay behind. And it's fascinating - uhm and for parts almost heartbreaking - to see it all from a different (human, in this case ;-) ) perspective, and not only with a different person. Your Brego is a great horse, too :-).

What really made me laugh was this dialouge:
" “You decided to fall off a cliff,” Aragorn informed him with a perfectly straight face.
“I decided nothing of this sort,” Legolas replied without thinking, his voice sounding indignant in spite of its weakness. "

This story has all the great elements the scenes in the movie had, and then some more :-).

Author's Response:

I'm very glad you liked this story! It was only my second attempt at writing fanfiction, and there are probably quite some flaws in it, but I still like it. It was a lot of fun to write, and it was one of those rare stories that don't require conscious effort but simply insist on being written. ;-)

I always wanted Legolas to go searching for Aragorn in the movies, so I had Aragorn insist on finding Legolas in this AU version. I really enjoyed exchanging their roles like that, though I have no idea where that inspiration came from. Gimli really wasn't happy to be left behind - I actually considered taking him along, but finally decided it would complicate things far too much. I'm happy you liked my version of Brego! I think I like your Brego a bit more, because writing the story from his POV gave him so much personality. :)

Hehe, I quite enjoyed writing that dialogue. ;-)

*blushes* Thank you so much for the compliment, and for your review! :)

Oh my..., how could I have missed this so far? It is beautiful, sad, humorous, intelligent… grin, and it made me revert to a 14 year old, who spend night after night with a flashlight under the bedcovers to read all the horse stories (yes, including several of ‘Blitz’-stories…, ‘Blitz’ being the German name of the black stallion in the Walter Farley stories) she could get a hold off :-).

I owned - and trained, not for racing, though - an Arabian mare (1/4 Egyptian, but white) and your description reminded me..., and I agree. True friendship (and a very few other things) is more worth than a horse. Any horse. I am happy for Estel though, that he could keep both. And I of course loved the reference to the forward seat, and all the other references that show you do know what you are writing about :-). Ah, I loved it all!

For the last hour I laughed and cheered and cried – oh yes, I admit it, you did it again, even though I am a grown up now, and not that easily moved to tears these days – and laughed again.

I can’t even begin to say what touched me most (oh, OK, that I can say: it was when Estel sat in that ‘family-meeting’ and faced Legolas’ empty stool and held his little speech…, but my eyes were damp at one or two other scenes as well), or made me laugh most. The list for all that made me laugh definitely would be too long :-).

Thank you for a wonderful story!

Author's Response:

Thank you so very much for such a lovely review!  And you're another 'under the bedclothes reading horse fanatic'! I met quite a few through this story - apparently there are quite a number of us with fond memories of 'horse tales' (couldn't resist the pun....sorry).

This was my first story, and there a quite a few little things I would change about it, but I have decided to let it stand as I first wrote it.

I'm so pleased you recognized the type of horse I was describing, and that you had one of your own. They are a very special breed, aren't they?

Most of all I'm just so glad you liked the story, and took the time to tell me so!

Wow... that was a surprise. Nice story! I can well imagine that the Dunedain had a tradition like the vision quest, and of course I totally agree that Aragorn's guide just had to be a wolf.

Author's Response: Yep, and I was quite suprised when I found that the wolf really would be his animal. Nice coincidence!

I have read this before... uh... a few times already, to be honest..., and now just again - and it never fails to touch me very deeply. You captured the emotions especially of Aragorn very well, and also the whole story is written in quite a beautiful language, beautiful at least to me. Also I liked the quotes you put at the beginning of each chapter, they fit in well I think.

... uhm..., and now I need to leave for the stable, and it is cold out there..., this was maybe not the perfect time to have read it... ;-)

Author's Response:

I very much hope I'll never be that late in replying to a review again - my computer decided to crash in December, moving turned out to be a lot more complicated than I thought, and when I finally had a new computer I didn't have an internet connection for months. Anyway, on to the important things - I'm very glad that my story touched you so deeply, and that you still keep re-reading it! I really enjoyed looking for fitting quotes for each chapter, it's good to know you like them, too. :) All the emotions made the story extremely difficult to write, so I'm happy to hear you think I wrote them well. LOL, I hope the story did not make you feel too cold! Thank you so much for your review! :)

This story of yours impressed me already when I read it the first time a while back on Teitho. Truely a controversial theme, and since I am sensitive to the topic of truth and lie, especially in medical context, it was of special interest to me. You made Aragorn's conflict as well as his solution very believeable, and to my surprise I really feel he did the right thing, given the circumstances.

Author's Response: I'm glad you found it believable. I actually did not try to "convince" the reader to accept or oppose Aragorn's decision (Aragorn himself is definitely NOT convinced), I just wanted to portray how a situation like this most likely would have been handled. I wanted to write something that is not the usual lotr-fic healing scene where the character survives a basically fatal wound after Elrond puts some obscure greenery on it. I like those, I'm a h/c fan after all, but sometimes I feel the need for a little more "reality".

I really enjoyed your short stories - especially since you found so many different ways to show many different aspects of Aragorn's and Legolas' friendship, without it ever getting boring or repetitous.

Author's Response:

Hi! :) I apologize for the late reply - I'm in the process of moving at the moment and things are a bit crazy around here. I'm very happy that you enjoyed my collection of short stories! I tried very hard to keep the stories from getting boring or repetitious and I'm glad I seem to have succeeded.  Hehe, I've been kept from going to bed early by stumbling over a fanfic story, too, but it's wonderful to hear that about one of *my* stories. ;-) Thank you so much for reading and reviewing my stories!

I so should be doing other things right now, just hours before New Year.., but just this: the last few days I went through some of the LOTR-fanfics I have downloaded on my computer, from when I first started to read in this fandom..., and amongst them there was this story, and while the title did not remind me the first lines of the story certainly did, that I had liked this a lot when I read it the first time - and I ended up reading the whole thing again :-). And now imagine my surprise when I then looked who had written it... :-) (I know, really language-versed people can recognize writing style, I can not though).

Now, that I know much more about Middle Earth and can see the small references and connections I loved the story even more... what especially did I love... how Estel instantly uses his newly-won freedom to decide to help Legolas despite his broken wrist..., the connections with hypnosis and Reiki, and chess..., Tinnu of course ;-)... Elronds feelings in all of this... and... uhm... I do have a weak spot for slave-regaining-freedom fanfics... :-)

And of course I also wondered about the future fate of Shaya..., will they meet again? *wink-mit-dem-Zaunpfahl*... ;-)

Author's Response:

Hi! I'm glad you even enjoyed it even more the second time around. The play on canon was one of the most interesting things for me while writing this. You don't have to change much (maybe two or three sentences in the LOTR appendix) to makes this work and that was fun to come up with.

I do know what will happen to Shaya and I hope to come back to that story in the future. I would like to write a sequel to "Hope Lost", but the ideas for that are really vague as of now.
