I'm a great fan of Tolkien and Lord of the Rings. I love the world he created and the enduring themes of his work. Of his many memorable characters, Aragorn in particular inspires me. I'm relatively new to fan fiction and would like to enjoy reading and posting encouraging reviews for the present. Down the road as time allows, hopefully the Ranger King will inspire me to put pen to paper.

A beautiful story, well fashioned. Full of peril and escape from certain death by the barest of margins. Exciting indeed! But what most strikes and remains with me is the wisdom, understanding, and compassion that Aragorn exhibits in dealing with the mariner's son. Although Aragorn is not yet fifty at this time in his many hard wanderings, and even though he labors sometimes uneasily under the weight of his destiny, he has already acquired the strength of character and moral compass necessary to become the great king of Men that he's destined to be. No wonder so many are drawn to him!!! Thanks for this treasure!

Author's Response:

Thank you, Striderette!  So glad you enjoyed this... and yes, I did want to show that side of him--the wisdom and understanding, and also the forgiving spirit I felt he possessed even before he became King.  Aragorn traveled in order to learn the hearts of men, and though most of us tend to think first of him learning the evil in men's hearts, I think he had to have also learned that men's hearts were sometimes better than their behavior initially showed.   So much refining Aragorn had to endure before he finally became gold that did indeed glitter and shine for all to see, and this was one of my early takes on one of those refining moments.  Thanks for the lovely review!

The Ranger and the Hobbit by cairistiona [9 Reviews]
An AU-ish tale that’s less AU than it is “what if”: what if, as the Dúnedain patrol the region around the Shire, Aragorn has an encounter with an intrepid, resourceful hobbit, one with the same mettle as Bilbo and a similar yen for adventure? And what if Aragorn also has an encounter with some men with less friendly intentions? Tookishness and Rangerliness both abound in this tale of a quiet patrol turned disastrous.

This is a great story, superbly told. It has just the right blend of action, suspense, pathos, and comfort. You have great talent for taking Aragorn to the limits of his endurance before bringing him back to a place of wholeness and safety. I love your characterization of the strong bonds of friendship and loyalty that exist between Aragorn and his fellow rangers, and I love your original characters Denlad and Ferdinand.....the latter of whom is, by the way, sufficiently "Tookish"!!!! Bravo!!!

Author's Response:

Thank you!  Those things... action, suspense, humor, comfort, pathos... are what I strive to hit in all my stories (at least the longer ones) so I'm glad you found them all present and accounted for in this one. :)   And the bonds between Aragorn and his Rangers, especially Halbarad and the OC's I created that form his "upper ranks", is something I'm fascinated by and love exploring, and what better way than to put poor Aragorn in a bit of a bind!  And Ferdinand... I just loved writing him.  He was my first attempt at writing hobbits and surprised me at every turn.

So glad you enjoyed this and thanks for taking time to leave a review online. ;)

The Riddle of Strider by cairistiona [5 Reviews]

He shepherded them all the way to Rivendell... but do they really have any idea who this mysterious Strider is? A gapfiller in three chapters. For Shirebound and Minerva Organa, whose requests provided the inspiration for this.

What a delightful little story, Cairistiona!! I very much enjoyed seeing Strider finally at peace in the valley of Rivendell, even if only for a short time. The banter with the hobbits is just priceless as is his reunion with Arwen!! You perfectly capture the tone and mannerisms of the characters.

Blessings,

Author's Response:

Thank you, Striderette!  (and glad you got yourself registered *g*)    I'm so glad you enjoyed the story--it was a lot of fun to sit and imagine just what might have happened in those undescribed hours after their struggles at the river.  I couldn't imagine Strider coming away completely untouched by the Black Breath, nor could I imagine Merry & Pip not checking on their new friend.

Thanks for the review!

Thorongil: Eagle of the Star by Gwaeros [5 Reviews]

One-shot. A moment in the life of Aragorn as he serves Ecthelion under the guise of Thorongil. Please R&R.

I love this, Gwaeros! A beautiful glimpse of Thorongil's heart while in the service of Ecthelion and Gondor. How like Aragorn to constantly think of others even when he is wounded! His grief for Daeron and his concern for the family this fallen soldier has left behind are very touching and speak well to the character of Aragorn, ever the estel of his people.

The Ranger and the Man in Yellow Boots by cairistiona [5 Reviews]

On his own in the Wilds and on the cusp of taking his place as leader of his people, a young Ranger has a mishap that leads to a bemusing encounter. A fic in 3 chapters for Inzilbeth on her birthday.

A delightful tale from beginning to end! You've nicely captured the enigmatic nature of old Tom as well as the Ranger's bemusement. I like how you use these events to further Aragorn on the path to his destiny.

Author's Response:

Thank you, Striderette!  I'm so glad you enjoyed this... and yes, meeting Tom B. had to have been something that happened at some point in Strider's many travels, and it worked nicely to write it so that it happened as a young man because, to be honest, I'm a little bemused by Tom B. myself!

Thanks for the review!
